"I couldn`t believe the size of this item when City Link delivered the box - I thought they`d just sent the power supply! However, although only a quarter of the size of my Netgear EVA 9000 (and a quarter of the price) it plays everything that`s thrown at it (with the exception of very large 1080p mp4(H.264/AVC) files, which the Netgear can manage). Divx HD, MP4 HD, WMV HD the lot, in high quality on my Philips 9000 series TV. I run it over a Devolo AVLan and the performance is flawless. It supports SAMBA and UPnp - I prefer to stick to SAMBA sharing(and on this the Netgear can have issues).
Music ( I use FLAC) and photos all play in high quality and the interface is a dream to use.
The only thing I can`t comment on is long term reliability - it does run very hot. But at this price why not buy 2!!, nothing else I`ve seen comes close.
I`m sure the chip that supports all this will start appearing in lots of TV`s and Blu Ray Players in the next 12 months."
  Iain Skelly, (Ness)

"Had this cyclone now for two weeks. The best gadget i have brought for years. I have had no film that it cannot play. On an HD sony Bravia its great. With full HD 1080p through a HDMI lead the picture is like watching a Blu Ray film. Worth every penny."
  Steve, (Folkestone)

"I`ve been looking at these wondering if I should get one as a replacement for my trusty XBMC as it cant play MKV HD content.
I`m happy to say that it works a charm. The picture quality of HD MKV files and regular DivX / Vobs is mint. It upscales lower res stuff very well. I`ve been playing media over my wired Lan without any issues from my Windows Machine share. The box is so small you dont think it`s going to be capable of much but be suprised, it is!
It plays AC3 and DTS via HDMI to my TV which then connects to my AMP without any problems, it is clear and crisp.

If I have only one negative thing to say about it is that you cannot set up shortcuts to specific folders shared on the Network, only shortcuts to a particular machine. You have to browse through the shares yourself regardless of the type of file you wish to play.
Mu only other gripe is that it does not come with a HDMI cable, only Composite cables are supplied. Since it`s Composite or HDMI only, It would have been nice but you can pick up a half decent 2m HDMI v1.4 cable for £5 now if you look around so it`s no hardship. Just get one asap to enjoy it fully.

Overall I`m very happy with it. The Remote is layed out well and is nice to hold. Comes with batteries and it works out of the box."
  Andi, (Leeds)

"The cyclone MKV is of very good build quality purchased thursday pm arrived friday am it has played every type of file via usb mkv xvid vob divx with dts and ac3 sound picture quality from files i have is perfect on plasma tv and 80inch projector screen. panasonic 7.1 surround sound amp used sound is spot on very accurate in detail and stearing to speakers have used ps3 for playback no mkv though thought that was good but colour and sound also picture clarity are better i have some very expensive kit and did not think this would be any good at this price but i was wrong it works great for me not used wifi but did not buy for that just wanted to play off usb sticks and hard drives cant praise enough remember video and sound will be down to the quality you feed through it"
  malcolm, (plymouth)

"really good quality build, decent control that you can use well in the dark , cant fault it at all - upscales as good as ps3 for me

one thing, i hope a firmware allws for BBC iplayer viewing like the caddy version does

I own the micro one for travel also, not met a hotel tv I can get it playing stuff :)"
  stephen B, (Aberdeen, Scotland)

"It plays the video of all mkv files I have but it only plays forty percent of the audio so most films arent really watchable. I do feel abit seen off."
Bigpockets Comments: This version will not downmix dts audio which is why you can't hear sound on some films. You need an external amp to decode the DTS
  Jim Nelson, (Dundee)

"The delivery of the mkv was quick and service from bigpockets top notch. I have not had chance to test all the files that this is meant to handle, but i have found that it will not play avchd movie files on my pen drive. I will report back once more files have been tested."
  peter sykes, (Huddersfield)

"Does what it says on the box, can`t fault it, brilliant, only files it would`nt play for me were HD Dvd, I know they don`t use the format now, but, there`s a lot of us out there with the files, pity they did`nt throw in the extra codec."
  Mansel, (Swansea)

Q:Can it decode DTS audio or is a separate amp required via the optical out?

Yes it will
Q:Hi, just to let you know.
On the Sumvision web site you can download the manual for this, on page 34 it it tell you about the wireless dongle. wireless only support to Realtek chipset solution (RTD8187 Chipset) Cyclone HD cannot support any other manufacturer network dongle. With a quick search I can only find them on ebay, but they are only about £15.

Asked by: Michael, Camberley

Bigpockets Answer:
Thanks for the info
Q:Will this play WMV windows media video format files.
Asked by: Malcolm, Stoke On Trent

Bigpockets Answer:
Yes it will.
Q:Will this play DVDs backed up to the network.
1.By selecting the VIDEO_TS folder or VIDEO_TS.IFO file.
2.By picking a DVD backed up as a single ISO file.
3.By picking a vob file say VTS_01_1.VOB if so does it automatically chain VTS_01_2.VOB etc.
Thanks for testing.

Asked by: John Ellis, Edinburgh

Bigpockets Answer:
Hi. This will play VOB and ISO files, but we haven't been able to test it with IFO files. There will probably be a slight pause between files as the player finishes playing a particular file and begins playing the next one in a folder.
Q:ok im almost ready to pull the trigger on one of these but the big question for me is : does it stay in sync? the prob with most of these players is they drift out of sync with dialogue on movies.
Asked by: brad, dundee

Bigpockets Answer:
We have tested it with several 1080P movies and none of them have gone out of sync during playback.
Q:Have you got it to work with Windows 7? If so, can you give details?

I`m on the brink of sending it back as it wont connect to Windows 7 shares, and using it via uPNP is just useless as it will only play whats recognised within Windows Media Player, which to be honest is useless. WMP doesnt support VOB/ISO.

Asked by: Jon, Liversedge

Bigpockets Answer:
If you create a shortcut to your computer IP address you can enter the username and password and log on that way. We have tested it with Windows 7 and it works fine.
Q:How Quiet is the unit, Is it bedroom material or more noisy like a sky box wirring away ?
Asked by: ANDY USHER, ESSEX

Bigpockets Answer:
It makes no noise at all

Bigpockets Answer:
Thank you :)
Q:To the guy (Helmi) who says the Realtek 8192 chipset works on wireless - tell us the make and model of the dongle you are using! Trying to find something that works on this thing is exceeding difficult.
Asked by: Neil, The Boro

Bigpockets Answer:
Hi. The one he used was an unbranded model so unfortunately it doesn't help in the search for a dongle.
Q:playing dts mkv files i cannot get any audio. im using hdmi current to a series 6 samsung. do you have to use a tosslink/optical lead for dts mkvs? thanks
Asked by: Matt

Bigpockets Answer:
you need an amp capable of decoding the DTS audio, the Cyclone can't decode DTS audio, only DD or AC3
Q:i want to stream movies from my lap top to the player so would it just be a straight connection to the player ie cyclone>---rj45 cable----->laptop ethernet port? or do i need to plug into a router? im not the best with networking stuff!
Asked by: brad, dundee

Bigpockets Answer:
Hi. Yes, you can connect it directly as you have described.
Q:Hi BP,
this unit sounds like a gem....
can it play .rar `s files withour unpacking a la XBMC or PS3 Media Server?
if so i need five! :-))
cheers

Asked by: Xdoktor

Q:Excellent, this sounds great! Cant wait for them to come in so I can order one!

Are you able to delete files from your computer once you have watched them?

Asked by: Scott Wright, Brighton

Bigpockets Answer:

Q:I actually managed to find a Wi-Fi dongle that works with this little beaut. LM Technologies LM005 802.11n spec. Got mine from Amazon for around £20 inc. delivery.
Asked by: Neil, The Boro

Bigpockets Answer:
Hi Neil
Thank you for the information! It will be of interest to our other customers.
Q:Hi There,

I would just like to say excellent site and service from you guys especially this question and answer session.

I am having trouble getting it to connect to my network. I am running windows 7 and it is asking for a net user ID and Password. It might just be me but for the life of me I am unsure of what these are. I don`t remember ever setting up this on Windows 7. I am desperate to get it working over the net so any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Best Wishes

The Duke

Asked by: The Duke, Glasgow

Bigpockets Answer:
Thanks for your comments, those are your user name and password you log onto windows with
Q:will this unit play multi-regional blu-ray disc
Asked by: mark, manchester

Bigpockets Answer:
It doesn't play blu-ray discs unfortunately as it doesn't have a built in blu-ray drive
Q:Just a quick update I have still not managed to get this to work over the network in Windows 7 even when I put in a user name and password. However I have managed to get it to share files using UPNP. Now I know that this is usually very limited to what Windows Media Player will recognise. I am glad to say thay I came across a solution from a product called TwonkyMedia manager, you can share your media on compatible devices throughout your home. As soon as I installed this I could access all files using UPNP. Here is the link for you to have a look at.

Asked by: The Duke, Glasgow

Bigpockets Answer:

Q:Does this support 24fps output?
Asked by: Riz

Bigpockets Answer:
We haven't tested 24p support unfortunately
Q:Hi
If there are 10 divx files in a folder will the player play one file followed by the next without having to move it on to the next file

Asked by: Terry Bartlam, Keighley

Bigpockets Answer:
Yes it will
Q:This looks very good, but you`re being a bit vague over Blu-ray. Blu-ray players are getting cheaper. Could I just direct output from one into the device and it would just see it as another HD source and pass the video through? If so, big saving on cabling and connectors/switches.
Also - will it support Blu-ray recorders when they become affordable?

Asked by: Bill, Chelmsford

Bigpockets Answer:
This is not designed to work with Blu-ray players. This is a media player, so you need to attach a memory card/hdd with a video file on it.
Q:hi
do i just plug this into the tv , put a film on a usb stick , plug it in and press play?
thanks in advance

Asked by: john

Bigpockets Answer:
Yes, in essence, that is how it works.
Q:Hi, can you please tell me if the SUMVISION MKV PLAYER will connect to my Windows Home Server shares?

Thanks

Asked by: Andrew, Cardiff

Bigpockets Answer:
Yes it will
Q:Does this system support Subtitles file as (srt)??
Asked by: Bhavesh, Birmingham

Bigpockets Answer:
Yes it does
Q:Can you please confirm that DTS is supported? As your previous answers state yes, but in another question / answer you state that this is version 1 not version 2 and therefore DTS is not supported! Please clarify as I cannot place an order without a concrete answer...Thanks
Asked by: nick, alton

Bigpockets Answer:
It supports DTS but it can't decode it. You would need a DTS amp to decode it. V2 can decode it and send it as 2 channel audio.
Q:Could you please give instructions on getting this to work with Windows 7? I can see my PC but cannot connect. I always get Logon failed even tho I am using the correct username/password.
Asked by: Mike

Bigpockets Answer:
There is a firmware update being released shortly to fix the windows 7 issues. I'll post more info as soon as it's released.
Q:can this support iplayer bbs stuff with future firmware upgrade like the caddy version seems too?
Asked by: stephen B, Aberdeen, Scotland

Bigpockets Answer:
No it can't, The caddy version doesn't support iplayer either, only youtube.
Q:Anyone with trouble getting Win7 to stream to theses, I want to share how I got this streaming from windows 7 - I used my PS3 JAVA media server, free and works perfectl!

Q:The Cyclone website lists a version 1.0, and a 2.0 which also supports DTS and internet services such as Picasa. Do you sell version 1.0 or 2.0?

Asked by: Doc Subaru, Epsom

Bigpockets Answer:
This is V1
Q:The RTL8192 chipset USB N Wireless adapter is available on Ebay on item# 190342996149 for only £12.99 including postage. This should work but I havent tried it yet.
Asked by: stewart, dundee

Bigpockets Answer:

Q:When sound settings are set for HDMI or optical, does it still come out of the red and white L/R connectors? While I have the sound out of my amp in the front room, I have seperate speakers in another room that need these outputs as well.
Asked by: Mark Binch, Ilkeston

Bigpockets Answer:
Yes it will output sound from the HDMI and phono connectors at the same time.
Q:What would happen if I played a file with DTS. I understand that my amp would decode and process it, but what if I connected with phono`s? would it be silent or would it just be stereo?
Asked by: Mark Binch, Ilkeston

Bigpockets Answer:
It would be silent on this model, the V2 can decode DTS and output it via the phonos.
Q:I just got my Sumvision Cyclone MKV Full 1080p HD player delivered. Seems to do what it says on the tin, but i am experiencing some sort of wirring sound when i turn it on (there`s no harddrive installed yet). Just a fan (i think) motor going and it`s quite high pitched and annoying. I am hoping this is a problem with the particular unit rather than an issue with the media player in general. Apart from that I am well happy with it!! Would be a shame to have to go for soemthing else when it`s got most of the bells and whistles to cover my needs! Has anyone reported this, and do you know what may be causing this ? Faulty unit ?

Asked by: Sam, Slough

Bigpockets Answer:
The unit does have a fan but it shouldn't be very loud. If there is no hard drive installed there is no reason you can't unplug the fan from the board inside the unit.
Q:I have tried every which way i can possibly try to get a log on with Windows 7 to no avail (including your create a shortcut advice). i can see the PC but the logon fails every time no matter what net user id and password combination I use (why should I need these anyway with a wired LAN. Could you pease put DETAILED instructions on how you got good test results with Windows 7 (was working no probs with XP).
Asked by: Andy, Leamington Spa

Bigpockets Answer:
The file sharing on Windows 7 currently doesn't work and sumvision are working on a firmware update for the unit.
Q:Does this system support cyrillic subtitles?

Bigpockets Answer:
This isn't stated in the spec so we will have to say no.
Q:Can you please explain your following answer to a previous posters question:

Q: Have you got it to work with Windows 7? If so, can you give details? I`m on the brink of sending it back as it wont connect to Windows 7 shares, and using it via uPNP is just useless as it will only play whats recognised within Windows Media Player, which to be honest is useless. Asked by: Jon, Liversedge

Bigpockets Answer:
If you create a shortcut to your computer IP address you can enter the username and password and log on that way. We have tested it with Windows 7 and it works fine.

My Question: I cannot make sense of what you are explaining to do? How do you create a shortcut to the windows7 machines ip and connect this way? I am an IT Professional and unless I`m losing my skills I am unable to connect to Windows7 using all kinds of different methods, reg fixes etc. Yet I cant make sense of what your answer was either but, recent reports tend to backup the theory that this device does not work with windows7 until a firmware update that has not been release yet?

Please do clarify.

Bigpockets Answer:

Now exit here

Right click folder you want to share select share with homegroup read/write
If its a drive share with advanced sharing tick the share this folder box then into permissions everyone tick full control
Restart pc and mkvbox if it was on when you started this, now on box go to networks select drive or folder put in your windows 7 user name and password you should now have access
Q:The EU Ver 2.0 youtube firmware is on the sumvision site. It comes down as a .IMG but neither Imageburn nor Nero recognize it as a viable image & and the Cyclone wont see it either - tried old trick of renaming the file to .Bin but still wont see it. Any ideas ?? Regards
Asked by: Geoff, sunderland

Bigpockets Answer:
Hi, it would be best to contact Sumvision directly to ask them how to use it since we have not performed the firmware upgrade ourselves.

We don't have a contact email address for Sumvision. However there are plenty of threads about the Cyclone over at the AV forums which is a very good source of information. This should link to some appropriate threads: http://www.avforums.com/forums/search.php?searchid=5660783

How manegable is the file display when having loads of mp3 files?
Does it sort by file name, artist, album...?
Thanks

Asked by: abon2002

Bigpockets Answer:
Yes it will play music files but we had not tested it's playlist compatibility so can not comment on that.
Q:If I connect an external hard drive to the player via one of the usb ports, will I be able to copy content from a networked PC or NAS to the USB connected hard drive? And if this is possible, can I do it via the player`s menu or will I need to do it on a network connected pc?

Asked by: Mike, London

Bigpockets Answer:
We don't think it is possible to copy files across your network to an external hard drive.

Q:this is a spectacularly good product as it reads nearly any AV format at it. there is only one thing, when i play dvix and connect with optical cable the product with my yamaha DTS 7.1 amp and choose SPDIF RAW i get no signal in my amp. a chech all the usual probs and nothing works. any ideas?
Asked by: mladen, belgrade

Bigpockets Answer:
i have tested it with many formats and i always get an input to my amp using HDMI, we have tested most formats with optical also without problems. What sound encoding do the divx files have? eg DD/AC 5.1 or DTS?
Q:Hi, I have WMV HD files 2 channel and also other free downloaded WMV HD files. I`ll be playing audio through the TV, which is the best player to get in case of multi channel audio as I don`t know which files are 5.1 etc? Enclosure?
Asked by: Paul, Harlow

Bigpockets Answer:
Its best to get the V2 player since that can decode DTS audio incase you have a video files with DTS. Otherwise you will need an amplifier to decode the DTS audio for you, since your TV won't be able to do it.
Q:Im thinking of getting as my current laptop wont play Full HD but I dont want to replace it.

If MKV files come with DTS sound, will I hear anything? I plan on plugging this into a HD monitor with no speakers and then the audio output of the TV into speakers. Will I be able to hear anything on the speakers? Apologies for the silly question.

Asked by: Quentin, London

Bigpockets Answer:
Hi, This version will not decode the DTS audio so you will either hear nothing or just noise. The enclosure version CAN decode DTS audio, and would work for your proposed setup.
Q:Will this give a better picture quality that the Sumvision Cyclone Micro HD ?
Thanks

It supports full hd playback so it will give a better picture on hd files.
Q:New to all this technology stuff. I have hundreds of DVDs, can I simply explore in XP and copy the files from the DVD over to a portable hard drive and connect to the cyclone ? And what is divx format, do I need it and if so, how do i convert dvds to this format. Thanks, Rob

Bigpockets Answer:
You need some separate software to back up your DVDs (search for DVD rip on google). DivX is simply a video encoding format which has a smaller file size than standard video files. You can play your backed up dvds on this media player via your portable hard drive, that will be fine.
Q:hi, if the remote is lost, can i still play my media? if yes, how?

You do need the remote for it to function correctly

Q:Hi do you know if you can use an HDMI to DVI cable with this player to watch HD videos on an HD tv that doesnt have HDMI connections?
Thanks

Asked by: Derek

Bigpockets Answer:
Yes, a HDMI to DVI cable will work, but since DVI does not carry sound, you will need to output sound via the sound output of the MKV player
Q:Hi Guys, this might be a silly question, but, will this work if used to connect between a HDMI TV &ampamp to a USB port on a laptap that has an external HD attached. Can I then use the laptop controls to view the external HD AVI`s on the TV?
Many thanks.

Asked by: John, Peterborough

Bigpockets Answer:
You would have to attach the drive directly to the mkv player or network the drive through your laptop and stream the files over the network to your mkv player.

It might appear the firmware upgrades are not interchangeable even though we were under the impression they were.
