"nearest thing to a pc for media playback, does all my formats mkv is very good remote works well if a little flimsy, hopefully with bios upgrades internet choice will increase sometimes these models get upgraded so often they forget about the older custumers but still best non pc device out there you would need to spend £250 for a pc with 1080p decoding ability"

"Right, I went up and down over this box, but ended up thinking its good. My brother has the WD Live which he said was great, but I thought this one would be better for me because you can put a hard drive inside.
Bad things about the player.
1. To put a drive inside you need to open it, but to do that you need a special screw driver, which it doesn’t come with, you can use a very small flat screw driver which I found works, but come on, it’s meant to be opened, make it easy!
2. To install the software to make the hard drive you have just installed in to a network drive is not as straight forward as it should be. The manual isn’t very clear. You need to take the software off the disc that comes with the player and put it on a USB stick. Then format the hard drive in the player and it should install. If, like me, it says install failed then try another USB stick and/or format it first. After it is installed it does seem to work well.
3. If you plug in a USB hard drive I can`t seem to find a way of making it a network drive, but maybe they will release a upgrade that might do it.
4. The last bad thing is that I have found it doesn’t play .flv files very well. It will play the audio, but it will only play the video if it’s very bad quality. (Mobile phone quality)
For most people they won’t want to do half the stuff I’ve done so will never have any problems. Plug it in to your network and it automatically configures and works in second, no mean, no fuss.
Like I said, the main problem was the screw driver thing. It’s like they didn’t want you to add one yourself. Other then that I would highly recommend it."
Bigpockets Comments: you only need a Philips screw driver to remove a single screw from the back located by the component output.

"This is a great product that pays ISO`S (My dvd images) with full menu support but for old DVD`S such as Only Fools & Horses you will need to keep switching to 4.3 Pan & Scan and change the resolution to 576p for ultra smooth playback over wise Del walks like he`s a little drunk and shaky. I have also heard this unit plays Blu-Ray? - but I don`t think it does? - Perhaps Big Pockets could let me know?
Reason I didn`t give 5 stars is because my previous Sumvision products lasted only a month so am banking on the build quality being better this time."
James Johnson, (London)
"Pretty good bit of kit.
Like Mike says - does some FLV but not others, same with .mov files.
Otherwise very handy."

"great value for money, plays everthing its says it does i`ve a 2 tb h/d in in no problems at all, only one thing is the noise of the cooling fan its very noisey otherwise 5 out of 5 "

"This player really is fantastic! I am a fairly well versed user of digital video formats and I have owned many players in the past (both disc based and networked) and this player is by far the best. So far I have tested it with almost every sort of codec it boasts to provide support for and as somebody has already stated, it will not play ALL of the FLV formats...At time of writing this I am still not sure exactly which ones though. All other HD/SD video files are no problem at all. The picture is clear and crisp and even SD formats will be fine on all but the largest of HDTV sets. The one area that struggles a little is my own personal networking aspect(not a critiscism of the player as such). I have to use homeplugs as my source PC is in another room to the media player/TV set, this creates a bottleneck in the bandwidth that makes it impossible to play HD formats (720 & 1080p MKV etc) streamed over the net. These files must first be moved over from memory stick or copied across the network onto an internal HDD but even at max speed(100Mb) these large size files take a while to copy-so I would recommend utilising the USB2 ports to speed things up a bit.If connected directly however it does seem to work fine without the homeplugs to limit traffic.
The unit itself is quite light and flimsy until you install a SATA HDD,this gives it the additional weight to seem like a better quality product. The GUI is Linux based and very easy to configuremuch easier than similar products on the market. The one strange quirk about this model is configuring it to be used as NAS. In order for the internal drive to be visible in "

Picasa WMV support
Hi
I have one of these. It doesn`t seem to support the wmv format produced by Picasa (creating a film out of photos). Does this work for you?
I am generating 1920x1080p
In general is there any way of finding out which formats (codecs?) are supported.
Asked by: Sean
Bigpockets Answer: Picasa must be generating a non compatible WMV codec. We don't have a list of all the compatible codecs, but if you haven't done so already, you could try updating the firmware on the player to the latest version to see if it makes any difference: http://www.sumvision.com.cn/firmware.aspx
